An undeniable trend in gaming graphics during the early 90s was the usage of digitized graphics, made possible thanks to various advancements in hardware and software. Resulting in hits like T2, Mortal Kombat, Pit Fighter and Primal Rage. PART...

How video games were made - part 2: Workflow
Over a few months ago, I had the pleasure to find a physical copy of Symphony of the Night at a local retro game shop in my part of town, and I never regretted getting the game. Loved every moment of it! The art has inspired my art, the music is incredibly and beautifully well crafted, and the tale is as old as time. 37 years later, and still loved by the fans.☺️
Wonderboy in monster land is a perfect game. Meanwhile 3 in the arcade is one of the worst ever.
The Japanese soundtrack is gorgeous
im glad i'm not the only one here to comment on how awesome the production value is! i like watching stuff like this while i eat because i can look away from the screen and the narration does the job while i eat. but i just couldn't take my eyes off the screen with this. so good guys.and not only the cute renders and effects, but for instance showing 90s animation trends, with examples like Sonya from MK and Earthworm jim, awesome examples.
I just got tickets to Dreams Come True and I enjoy coming back to your documentary
I kinda miss the hip-hop vibes of old Sonic games.
Amazing retrospective! 👏👏
Mom get the popcorn!!!!!
The game concept was copied from Final Fight. They just added a few updates and a different theme. There are many of these games.
Mortal kombat 1992 canavar
This channel is still so underrated. The work and research in these videos are next level. Thank you for everything you do Strafefox
Wow!!! Thank you so much for making this video!! You've answered one of my greatest questions in amazing detail & style!!
That space pirate cobra reference was peak!
This is misinformation. The crescent on knuckles chest was made to contrast sonic. As the character designer believed the big round circle on sonics stomach resembled the sun, so in contrast, knuckles would represent the moon.
Whats that voice, and that way to speak ? So stiff, like a bot. Cant stand that voice, cant watch any further.
Meeh, dont like the dark graphics of Chrono Trigger. I shut the Game down after 5 Minutes, to depressing & dissapointing, after seeing the beautiful, bright colorful world of Secret of Mana.
As a proud owner of 2 E30 325 i am happy to see the E30 Illustrations and that the E30 had some influence in Out Run 😎
I grew up with this game. I played it more than anything else. Good memories forever. The music, the graphics, the difficult but engaging game mechanics. Nice review.
Hey wheres the original video about the art that inspired Sonic? 😲
It got a copyright claim on the audio. But the content of that old video is still largely present in this new video including the bit about CGI and inspirations.
@@strafefox 😳 no way!!! That’s so petty and sorry to loose that video I hope/wish is archived was the video that introduced me to your brilliant channel. So so gutted
I remember so much, Even down to the world of pure imagination playing at end..

Absolutely fantastic little retrospective of an almost by gone era. Literally brought tears to my eyes. Looking forward to more. Keep up the good work.
Awesome to read! Thanks so much!
Absolutely phenomenal
Thanks so much!
Just recently heard the story that Labyrinth zone was part of a game story, but deemed too hard for beginners and moved to the back. Hence why Labyrinth is listed as second in the level select menu.
Wow, that was really good, fantastic work!
Fantastic doc! My favourite all time game probably. Yeah there have been better but the nostalgia, the atmosphere, that music! Best Castlevania game. Glorious! 🥰
Wow, the production and editing of your videos always leave me speechless and fill me with excitement. I hope the time comes when your channel becomes tremendously popular because your content deserves it!!.💥🤘💥
Thanks so much! That's really cool to read!
Amazing and high quality video as always!
You earned yourself a subscriber. Good work!
I pretended to be sick in 2nd grade one day at school just so I could go home and play DKC. One of my favorite games ever to this day... decades later and I still have many of the levels memorized... and the music... mmm... so good!
This is THE most UNDERRATED channel on yt
Thank you again for your hard work.
I had no idea that Inspector Gadget and The Smurfs animated show were even older than me- I saw them in reruns as a kid and just presumed they were contemporary. Still, cool to see this era even if it's something I've read about more than Ive seen it, as the explosion of new stories and franchises came and changed the landscape... even if it couldn't change it to the point where we got all the cool things we'd ever want, like that Wild Things-movie. And man, japanese (and probably korean) studios really got a lot of mileage out of Europe wanting it's stories as animated shows. I didn't even know we had an animated version of Nils Holgerson, I only knew of the live-action show.
Oh lawd, thank you Strafefox for all of this!!!
I always hear that the Lion King was a B-project to Disneys Pochantos, but Lion King looks better to me. Maybe there's some fine combed technical and artistic details i don't know about
Geweldig werk Jeroen! Erg gaaf, inhoudelijk en visueel!
Dankjewel! :)
Thanks!👏
Thanks so much!
I was waiting for the second installment and boy was it worth the wait!!
Love the 80s design as I was an 80s kid. This takes me back to my childhood.
WORD!
Fantastic work, thank you!
Best channel on youtube💯👊
The renderings used for the cutaways / transitions in this presentation are absolutely fantastic…well done
The gaming opinion hill I die on is - this is the best game ever made
It's amazing how much freedom they had to develop games back in the 90s, and it truly shows, the result was inspired by works of art and became itself art. Except felt a lot more alive, interactive... Truly espetacular to see the creative process behind such a masterpiece as SOTN.
I've been watching your vids since college and am frequently continuing to be impressed.
When I try to think of what the creative vibe of the 2010's or 2020's is like, I draw a blank. It really does seem like the 80's were a special time with such a wild, unqiue mix of 70's softness and organic-ness, all those friendly shapes with pastel and earth tones... and the colorful hard clean edges of early computer graphics, airbrushed gradients and neon and shiny metal. Maybe with 30 years of distance, I'll be able to see what the style of the 2020's was like.
I loved/love Hudson's Adventure Island for the NES. Amazing music, atmosphere and gameplay. Thank you!
Reminder of simpler times! Thanks for this amazing video (as always)
Fantastic video as always, loved the usage of the 80's toys in the framing shots. This is easily my favorite channel on youtube.
That's awesome! Thank so much! And those toy shots were fun to make :)
This game is so fun and beautiful.
That era still rules!
